It was a rangebound session for the markets today with both benchmark indices closing almost flat. Banking and pharma stocks were the worst performers today while FMCG and capital goods closed with substantial gains. The Sensex closed at 18728 (provisional), down 16 points from its previous close, and the Nifty closed at 5622 (provisional), down 10 points. The CNX Midcap index was up 0.1% and the BSE Smallcap index also gained 0.1%. The market breadth was negative with advances at 649 against declines of 657 on the NSE.
