The markets came under heavy selling pressure today with both benchmark indices losing more than three-fourth of a percent. IT, realty, banking and metal remained the biggest losers of todayÿs trade while support came from FMCG and consumer durables. The Sensex closed at 18715 (provisional), down 143 points from its previous close, and the Nifty closed at 5617 (provisional), down 44 points. The CNX Midcap index was down 0.2% and the BSE Smallcap index lost 0.4%. The market breadth was negative with advances at 488 against declines of 793 on the NSE.
