The markets closed with moderate declines today with oil & gas and realty being the worst performing sectors. Banking, auto and IT supported the indices while Reliance Industries and Bharat Heavy Electricals dragged the markets down. The Sensex closed at 18745, down 70 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5632, down 18 points. The CNX Midcap index was down 0.3% and the BSE Smallcap index gained 0.2% in todayÿs trade. The market breadth was negative with advances at 635 against declines of 664 on the NSE. The top Nifty gainers were Ranbaxy, Grasim, Mahindra & Mahindra and Reliance Capital and the biggest losers included BHEL, Cairn, RIL and Hindalco.
