Nifty closed 6.95 points down at 5985.30
Sensex closed 37.76 points down at 19943.55
The Sensex having pared some of its losses, continues to trade in the negative terrain
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 1.59 points or 0.01% at 19,982.90, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 2.80 points or 0.05%, at 5,995.05.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed fall of 59.02 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (24.53 points), H D F C Bank (14.21 points), Tata Motors (10.62 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (9.76 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed rise of 33.24 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys Technologies (19.07 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (9.02 points), Hindalco Industries (7.88 points) and Bharti Airtel (7.18 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation 1337.95 (1.27%),

Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining 1.03% and 1.66% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (2.08%), Aban Offshore (1.25%), Ackruti City (0.74%), Alfa-Laval (India) (0.28%) and Alstom Projects India (0.15%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (3.47%), A B G Shipyard (3.08%), INEOS ABS (India) (2.86%), Aarti Industries (2.41%) and Abhishek Industries (1.51%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 13,370.76, down by 362 points or by 2.64%. The major losers were Bank Of India(4.54%), I C I C I Bank (3.46%), Federal Bank (2.59%), Bank Of Baroda (2.25%) and H D F C Bank (1.28%).
The Realty index was at 2,907.99, down by 32.5 points or by 1.11%. The major losers were Indiabulls Real Estate (3.86%), D B Realty (3.68%), D L F (2.9%), Ackruti City (0.74%) and Anant Raj Industries (0.44%).
The IPO index was at 1,956.18, down by 14.47 points or by 0.73%. The major losers were Aster Silicates (4.7%), ARSS Infrastructure Projects (2.46%), Ashoka Buildcon (1.02%), Bajaj Corp (0.62%) and Adani Power (0.57%).
On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 10,523.96, up by 112.63 points or by 1.08%. The major gainers were Reliance Industries (1.46%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.27%), Cairn India (0.82%), G A I L (India) (0.7%) and Oil India (0.62%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 767 advances against 2,166 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,134.77 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 847.76 million), I C I C I Bank (Rs. 651.57 million) and Tata Motors (Rs. 631.53 million).
The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 35.23 million shares. It was followed by Karuturi Global (19.24 million), Resurgere Mines and Minerals India (12.77 million) and Ispat Industries (5.56 million).
