Nifty closed 7.10 points down at 5985.70
Sensex closed 1.91 points down at 19965.02
The Sensex having shed its gains, continues to trade in the positive terrain as it witnessed some profit booking. Metal and oil & gas stocks moved up, while banking, FMCG and PSU edged lower.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 71.32 points or 0.36% at 20,038.25, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 40.85 points or 0.68%, at 6,033.65.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 37.78 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (19.75 points), Infosys Technologies (19.5 points), Tata Steel (16.2 points) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (15.44 points).
However, I C I C I Bank contributed fall of 33.25 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (21.09 points), I T C (14.64 points), Hero Honda Motors (5.79 points) and Reliance Communications (1.81 points).

The BSE Smallcap index was at 9847.86 down by 11.11 points or by 0.11%. The major losers were A B G Infralogistics (2.41%), A B G Shipyard (0.68%), Abhishek Industries (0.29%), Action Construction Equipment (0.25%) and Aegis Logistics (0.12%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 16,628.69, up by 438.26 points or by 2.71%. The major gainers were JSW Steel (4.85%), Bhushan Steel (3.89%), Hindalco Industries (3.36%), Jindal Steel & Power (2.99%) and National Aluminium Company (1.03%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 10,458.36, up by 133.55 points or by 1.29%. The major gainers were G A I L (India) (1.61%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.38%), Cairn India (1.26%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.68%) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.44%).
The Power index was at 2,945.96, up by 29.22 points or by 1.00%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.91%), JSW Energy (1.24%), Reliance Infrastructure (0.87%), GVK Power & Infrastructure (0.37%) and G M R Infrastructure (0.31%).
On the other hand, the Bankex index was at 13,949.67, down by 116.45 points or by 0.83%. The major losers were Bank Of India(4.24%), Canara Bank (3.05%), I C I C I Bank (1.94%), Bank Of Baroda (1.05%) and Federal Bank (0.54%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,573 advances against 1,320 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
R P P Infra Projects topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,140.90 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,035.97 million), Tata Motors (Rs. 1,023.12 million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 939.25 million).
The volume chart was led by Karuturi Global with trades of over 24.91 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (19.57 million), R P P Infra Projects (15.82 million) and Sanraa Media (5.62 million).
