Sensex closed 87.58 points up at 19779.36
The Sensex still trading in the positive zone. Midcap and Smallcap too traded higher. Consumer durables, metal and oil & gas stocks gained ground, however auto and banking edged lower.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 54.97 points or 0.28% at 19,746.75, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 21.05 points or 0.36%, at 5,928.70.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 32 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (19.82 points), Sterlite Industries (India) (10.99 points), Tata Motors (10.64 points) and I T C (10.12 points).
However, Hero Honda Motors contributed fall of 7.36 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (7.18 points), I C I C I Bank (5.77 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.99 points) and Hindustan Unilever (1.64 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sterlite Industries (India) (3.12%), Reliance Infrastructure (2.18%), Tata Motors (1.97%), Tata Steel (1.97%), Larsen & Toubro (1.46%), and Reliance Industries (1.36%).
On the other hand, Hero Honda Motors (3.24%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.62%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.49%), Jaiprakash Associates (0.80%), Bajaj Auto (0.53%), and Tata Power Company (0.42%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.18% and 1.39% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Core Projects and Technologies (1.75%), Aban Offshore (1.19%), Alstom Projects India (1.09%), A I A Engineering (0.79%) and Alfa-Laval (India) (0.1%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Shipyard (6.53%), Abhishek Industries (3.58%), A B G Infralogistics (3.38%), Aarti Industries (1.87%) and INEOS ABS (India) (1.55%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,177.35, up by 158.87 points or by 2.64%. The major gainers were Gitanjali Gems (6.94%), Rajesh Exports (3.91%), Titan Industries (3.28%), Blue Star (2%) and Bajaj Electricals (1.86%).
The Metal index was at 16,559.66, up by 232.28 points or by 1.42%. The major gainers were Hindustan Zinc (3.71%), Bhushan Steel (3.09%), JSW Steel (2.93%), National Aluminium Company (1.34%) and Hindalco Industries (0.81%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 10,677.96, up by 117.34 points or by 1.11%. The major gainers were Indian Oil Corporation (2.62%), Cairn India (2.18%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.83%), G A I L (India) (0.46%) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.18%).
On the other hand, the Auto index was at 9,949.70, down by 31.78 points or by 0.32%. The major losers were Hero Honda Motors (3.24%), Exide Industries (1.6%), Bajaj Auto (0.53%), Ashok Leyland (0.51%) and Apollo Tyres (0.16%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,889 advances against 948 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,064.68 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 652.19 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 626.62 million) and Coal India (Rs. 584.18 million).
The volume chart was led by Birla Power Solutions with trades of over 15.92 million shares. It was followed by Resurgere Mines and Minerals India (8.22 million), Ispat Industries (7.26 million) and Hindustan Construction Company (4.97 million).
