16th Dec Closing Market Updates
Nifty closed 49.90 points up at 5942.20
Sensec closed 190.31 points up at 19838.08
Indian markets continued to fall for the second day on Thursday. At 1.58 pm, the Sensex was trading down 36.16 points or 0.18% at 19,611.61 with 20 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 18.20 points or 0.31% at 5,874.10 with 35 components falling.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 50.81 points or 0.26% at 19,698.58, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 18.25 points or 0.31%, at 5,910.55.
Sensex Movers

Mahindra & Mahindra contributed fall of 17.53 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (14.61 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (14.08 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (13.89 points) and Larsen & Toubro (11.24 points).
However, Infosys Technologies contributed rise of 36.08 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (17.65 points), State Bank Of India (10.76 points), Wipro (8.09 points) and I C I C I Bank (7.59 points).

Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining 0.55% and 0.38% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Core Projects and Technologies (1.6%), Aban Offshore (1.42%), Alstom Projects India (1.28%), A I A Engineering (1.24%) and Alfa-Laval (India) (0.99%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Shipyard (4.09%), A B G Infralogistics (2.34%), Aarti Industries (2.07%), INEOS ABS (India) (0.8%) and Provogue (India) (0.17%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 9,720.08, down by 153.7 points or by 1.56%. The major losers were Ashok Leyland (2.65%), Amtek Auto (1.88%), Bajaj Auto (1.81%), Exide Industries (1.79%) and Bharat Forge (1.64%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 5,968.71, down by 90.71 points or by 1.5%. The major losers were Bajaj Electricals (3.71%), Titan Industries (2.43%), Whirlpool Of India (1.36%), Blue Star (0.85%) and Rajesh Exports (0.26%).
The Power index was at 2,900.30, down by 31.93 points or by 1.09%. The major losers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.82%), G M R Infrastructure (0.87%), Reliance Infrastructure (0.84%), Adani Power (0.52%) and A B B (0.22%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 6,524.57, up by 125.90 points or by 1.97%. The major gainers were Tata Consultancy Services (2.21%), Mphasis (2.1%), Infosys Technologies (1.86%), Oracle Financial Services Software (1.66%) and H C L Technologies (0.45%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,186 advances against 1,640 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
MOIL topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 3,799.21 million. It was followed State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,955.22 million) and A B G Shipyard (Rs. 1,509.84 million).
The volume chart was led by Sanraa Media with trades of over 20.40 million shares. It was followed by Ispat Industries (19.80 million), Cals Refineries (10.22 million) and Moil (8.23 million).
