Nifty closed points 50.30 up at 5907.65
Sensex closed 179.17 points up at 19688.06
The Sensex is still trading in the negative due to profit taking seen in select heavyweights. IT stocks dropped the most followed by banking, FMCG and oil & gas, while power and PSU gained.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 91.39 points or 0.47% at 19,600.28, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 25.30 points or 0.43%, at 5,882.65.
Sensex Movers
ICICI Bank contributed fall of 31.37 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys Technologies (23.38 points), I T C (23.2 points), Reliance Industries (17.75 points) and State Bank Of India (10.94 points).
However, Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 11.81 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (8.07 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (7.42 points), NTPC (5.76 points) and Hindustan Unilever (4.84 points).

Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.71% and 0.95% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Core Projects and Technologies (5.35%), A I A Engineering (3.87%), Alstom Projects India (2.45%), Ackruti City (1.35%) and Alfa-Laval (India) (1.17%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A K Capital Services (2.77%), Abhishek Industries (2.39%), Provogue (India) (1.31%), Action Construction Equipment (0.92%) and INEOS ABS (India) (0.7%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IT index was at 6,193.10, down by 68.53 points or by 1.09%. The major losers were Wipro (1.99%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.24%), Infosys Technologies (1.22%), Patni Computer Systems (0.93%) and Tech Mahindra (0.33%).
The Bankex index was at 12,871.98, down by 130.89 points or by 1.01%. The major losers were I C I C I Bank (1.96%), Canara Bank (1.73%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.36%), Bank Of Baroda (0.76%) and H D F C Bank (0.61%).
The TECk index was at 3,699.82, down by 36.28 points or by 0.97%. The major losers were Idea Cellular (3.23%), Dish TV India (1.48%), Infosys Technologies (1.22%), Bharti Airtel (0.57%) and Tech Mahindra (0.33%).
On the other hand, the IPO index was at 1,898.05, up by 12.11 points or by 0.64%. The major gainers were Aqua Logistics (5.8%), Aster Silicates (2.22%), ARSS Infrastructure Projects (2.05%), Bajaj Corp (0.41%) and Bedmutha Industries (0.2%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,721 advances against 1,113 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Mehta Securities topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 0.00 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,907.75 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 623.46 million) and L I C Housing Finance (Rs. 447.37 million).
The volume chart was led by K S Oils with trades of over 9.29 million shares. It was followed by Karuturi Global (7.90 million), Birla Power Solutions (4.55 million) and Cals Refineries (4.35 million).
