The Sensex was trading higher on account of some buying interest seen in index pivotals. Realty, oil & gas and consumer durable stocks traded marginally lower, while banking and IT moved up.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 10.73 points or 0.05% at 20,167.62, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 110.65 points or 1.82%, at 6,128.30.
Sensex Movers
ICICI Bank contributed rise of 37.08 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (31.52 points), H D F C Bank (21.45 points), Tata Consultancy Services (9.29 points) and Tata Steel (8.13 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed fall of 29.74 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (9.47 points), Hindalco Industries (7.15 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (4.07 points) and Tata Motors (3.88 points

The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining 0.16% and 0.19% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Anant Raj Industries (3.06%), Amtek Auto (2.94%), A I A Engineering (2.2%), Allahabad Bank (1.24%) and Alstom Projects India (0.35%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (4.92%), Provogue (India) (2.76%), Abhishek Industries (2.55%), Adhunik Metaliks (0.86%) and A B G Shipyard (0.54%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 14,422.84, up by 257.56 points or by 1.82%. The major gainers were Federal Bank (2.17%), H D F C Bank (1.97%), Canara Bank (1.17%), Bank Of India (0.96%) and Bank Of Baroda (0.19%).
The IT index was at 6,097.61, up by 50.68 points or by 0.84%. The major gainers were Oracle Financial Services Software (0.97%), Mphasis (0.51%), Tech Mahindra (0.46%), Infosys Technologies (0.39%) and H C L Technologies (0.26%).
The TECk index was at 3,705.07, up by 25.06 points or by 0.68%. The major gainers were Reliance MediaWorks (3.66%), D B Corp (1.57%), Bharti Airtel (1.14%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.97%) and Mphasis (0.51%).
On the other hand, the Realty index was at 3,452.10, down by 46.63 points or by 1.33%. The major losers were Anant Raj Industries (3.06%), D L F (1.42%), Indiabulls Real Estate (0.95%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.84%) and D B Realty (0.4%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,306 advances against 1,607 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,767.16 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 917.90 million), Wockhardt (Rs. 880.54 million) and Delta Corp (Rs. 808.89 million).
The volume chart was led by Dynamic Infotel with trades of over 18.20 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (11.16 million), I K F Technologies (10.12 million) and Alok Industries (7.34 million).
