The markets lost significantly in the last hour of trade and auto and metal were the worst performers of today's trade. The Sensex closed at 16256 (provisional), down 243 points from its previous close, and the Nifty closed at 4876 (provisional), down 73 points. The CNX Midcap index was down 1.1% and the BSE Smallcapindex lost 0.5%. The market breadth was negative with advances at 540 against declines of 881 on the NSE.
In Nifty50 stocks, RANBAXY gained the most by 1.08% and ended at 472. and TATASTEEL was the top loser by 4.62% and ended at 453.55.
