It was rangebound trade in the markets today and both benchmark indices closed at the lower level of the range. The Sensex closed at 17051 (provisional), down 80 points from its previous close, and the Nifty closed at 5133 (provisional), down 28 points. The CNX Midcap index was down 0.3% and the BSE Smallcapindex also lost 0.3%. The market breadth was negative with advances at 563 against declines of 750 on the NSE.
In Nifty50 stocks, HDFC was the top gainer by 2.68% and closed at 684. TATAPOWER was the top loser by 4.40% and closed at 1122.
