Equity benchmarks were lacklustre in trade today amid low volume. The Nifty continued to trade in a tight range of 5460-5490 levels since morning trade.
Heavyweights ONGC and Reliance Industries fell 1.5% & 0.7%, respectively. Among others, ITC, Infosys, L&T, NTPC, Bharti Airtel and BHEL were marginally in the red.
M&M was the top loser post disappointing numbers, with falling over 5%. It has reported net profit of Rs 607 crore in January-March quarter of CY11, a growth of 6.5% compared to same quarter the previous year. OPM grew at 12.7% versus 15.9% on year-on-year basis.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were
Cipla (3.47%),
Reliance Communications (3.06%),
DLF (2.75%),
Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.33%),
Bajaj Auto (1.12%),
Tata Consultancy Services (1.10%).


The biggest losers in the Sensex
Mahindra & Mahindra (5.14%),
Hindalco Industries (1.77%),
Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.29%),
I T C (0.90%),
Tata Motors (0.89%), and Reliance Industries (0.82%)
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.80% and 0.59% respectively.
Sectors in Limelight
The HC index was at 6,271.59, up by 133.05 points or by 2.17%. The major gainers were Aurobindo Pharma (3.95%), Cipla (3.47%), Cadila Healthcare (1.72%), Biocon (1.65%) and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (0.17%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,454.40, up by 118.61 points or by 1.87%. The major gainers were Titan Industries (2.95%), Gitanjali Gems (2.83%), Videocon Industries (0.44%), Rajesh Exports (0.17%) and Blue Star (0.14%).
The Realty index was at 2,120.97, up by 33.65 points or by 1.61%. The major gainers were D B Realty (3.05%), D L F (2.75%), Ackruti City (2%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.52%) and Sunteck Realty (0.02%).
The Auto index was at 8,869.71, down by 111.36 points or by 1.24%. The major losers were Mahindra & Mahindra (5.14%), Apollo Tyres (1.56%), Exide Industries (0.72%), Cummins India (0.23%) and Hero Honda Motors (0.21%).

Market breadth was positive with 1,606 advances against 1,134 declines
