Nifty closed 39.10 down at 5552.90
Sensex closed 112.80 down at 18496.01
US markets plunged yesterday, with Dow, S & P 500 and Nasdaq losing two and a quarter percent each on the back of weak economic reports. benchmark indices extended their rising streak to second consecutive day by gaining just over half a percent in yesterday's trade to close at one month high.

HeroHonda Motors(1.03%),
NTPC (0.26%),
StateBank Of India (0.23%).
The biggest loser in the 30-share index:
Reliance Energy (5.04%),
RelianceCommunications (4.64%),
ICICI Bank (3.36%),
Tata Motors(2.91%),
Mahindra & Mahindra (2.39%),
Sterlite Industries (India) (1.90%)
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap index was at 6909.64 down by 57.21 points or by 0.82%.
The major losers were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Service (4.07%), A B G Shipyard (2.29%), Aban Offshore (2.2%), Alfa-Laval (India) (1.1%) and Alstom Projects India (0.1%).
The BSE Smallcap index was at 8236.85 down by 70.80 points or by 0.85%.
The major losers were Trident (2%), A K Capital Services (1.96%), INEOS ABS (India) (1.67%), Aarti Industries (0.38%) and Acropetal Technologies (0.23%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 2,130.29, down by 41.48 points or by 1.91%. The major losers were D B Realty (5.37%), Indiabulls Real Estate (2.28%), Ackruti City (2.07%), D L F (1.57%) and Mahindra Lifespace Developers (0.12%).
The Bankex index was at 12,349.23, down by 221.07 points or by 1.76%. The major losers were Bank Of India(3.11%), Canara Bank (2.94%), Federal Bank (1.71%), H D F C Bank (1.44%) and Bank Of Baroda (0.76%).
The Metal index was at 15,215.13, down by 230.61 points or by 1.49%. The major losers were Hindustan Zinc (3.21%), Bhushan Steel (1.91%), JSW Steel (1.76%), Hindalco Industries (1.67%) and Jindal Steel & Power (1.21%).
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 3,921.40, up by 46.22 points or by 1.19%. The major gainers were Hindustan Unilever (3.5%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (2.45%), I T C (1.16%), Dabur India (0.84%) and Nestle India (0.28%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,061 advances against 1,723 declines.
